University Park - Akron, Ohio

Ken served as Senior Economic Development Advisor and Executive Director of the award-winning University Park Alliance (UPA) for The University of Akron (UA). Reporting directly to University President Luis M. Proenza, Ken was responsible for the revitalization of the neighborhoods surrounding this prominent urban university, through catalyzing real estate and business investment, and engaging community stakeholders.

During his tenure, the original $3 million in funding for the alliance leveraged more than $150 million in public and private investments in University Park. Ken also provided strategic guidance for UA’s local and regional economic development initiatives, and helped attract over $15 million in grants for UPA and UA initiatives. Ken also grew the partnership to include 3 hospitals, the City, the County, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Akron Beacon Journal.

Acknowledging University Park Alliance (UPA) as an exceptional educational institution partnership, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) presented an award to UPA at IEDC's Annual Conference, which took place in Reno, Nevada, October 4-7, 2009. Competing in the category of "Partnerships with Educational Institutions," UPA was recognized as a clear standout and took top honors in the category for their branding and marketing initiatives. Additional awards were received from the State of Ohio, Dominion, and Northern Ohio Live Magazine to recognize UPA’s community engagement and community building programs.
